Gold Rush: Graduated Glitter Nail Tutorial.

7 November 2011

Graduated glitter is my favorite design to do on my nails.  It takes a little more time than a regular manicure but if you really want your fingers to stand out and sparkle then this is the perfect thing to do. Whenever I have spare time on my hands I like to do these.

Here's my 'how-to' guide. You'll need a nude or soft pink base coat, a fine gold glitter or gold metallic nail polish, a larger gold glitter and a clear top coat.

  1. Prep your nails by removing all nail polish. You should use nail polish remover to clean your nails even if you have no polish on them. This will remove the natural oils helping your manicure last longer. File your nails down, remove dry cuticles and then buff the nail lightly.
  2. Apply two coats of a nude or soft pink polish and allow it to dry.
  3. Apply a thin coat of the fine gold glitter or metallic gold polish to the top half of the nail. Make sure you let it dry before doing the next step.
  4. Use the larger gold glitter to paint the tip of the nail working down towards the edge of the finer gold. The glitter needs to be applied thickest at the tip and less pieces towards the middle.
  5. Let it dry thoroughly then apply a thick top coat to seal the glitter design. Don't worry if you get polish on cuticles.
  6. When your nails have dried use some polish remover on a cotton swab to remove excess polish around the nail. You can also scratch it off easily when your in the bath or shower.
TA DA! Beautiful sparkly nails!

I did these this weekend and since they're so eye catching I've had a lot of compliments. Despite being very glittery they actually go well with most outfits. The nude base color means they don't clash with much. I wear a lot of gold accessories so gold is usually my preference but you can do the same with silver if you tend to wear more silver jewellery. Let me know how it goes if you try these!

PS: If you'd like to purchase the gold polishes that I used for this manicure, they're now available in my blog store HERE :)

@Tina, I think it's because I didn't really get the swing of this blogging thing until about a month ago. I only started at the very very end of July anyway (so about 3 months so far) but I wasn't really commenting anywhere so no-one could even find my blog. Haha! I hope I am up to 1000 soon, that would be amazing! Fingers crossed!
