Nails // Essie The Lace Is On

29 September 2013

I am enamoured with this polish.

Okay, now that we've got that out of the way I can tell you it's The Lace Is On, from the Essie Fall 2013 collection. I got the mini-cube last week and posted about the other three colours in the collection - HERE. This particular colour really stands out from the group so I decided I'd do a manicure with it alone. Then, as if the nail gods planned it, this new glitter polish that I'd bought just days before from Korean brand Innisfree, matched perfectly!

The Lace Is On is a jewel toned purple which gives you flashes of pink from the fuchsia shimmer. It has a pearlescent finish with a nice amount of depth, especially after a Seche Vite topcoat (minor shrinkage forgiven). To me, a lover of bright nails, this is the perfect alternative to the darker plum toned polishes that are always popular for Fall.

The only minor negative about this polish, is that initially I had a bit of a problem with it dragging on the second coat and got a little bubbling. Duo-chromes and shimmer polishes have a tendency to do this if you're not careful. If you make sure the base coat is applied fairly thin, allow a little extra drying time and then do a generous second coat you shouldn't have any problems.

The mini-cube can be purchased online from Zappos. You can get the single full-size version of The Lace Is On and all the other Essie Fall 2013 polishes on Nordstrom, or Look Fantastic with free worldwide delivery.

Let me know in the comments below what you think of this colour. Also, what colour polish are you wearing now or what's your usual favourite fall nail colour?

Essie Fall 2013 // The Mini Collection

24 September 2013

Not only am I a nail polish addict, but I'm also highly indecisive so mini collections are literally a godsend for me. They give me the chance to 'sample' more of the colours before deciding if I want to buy any in full size. This year's Essie Fall 2013 mini-cube contained all the colors I wanted to try out from the full collection, that never usually happens to me! The other two, not included are a navy blue and a red, but to me they were the least interesting shades.

Top of my list to try was For The Twill Of It, a grey with pink to green duochrome effect. This one reminds me of spilt oil, it's got such a broad color shift and looks even prettier in person. I had actually been interested in getting Peace & Love & OPI, but after a bit of research I found out the two are exactly the same.

Second on the list of colors I wanted to try out was The Lace Is On. It's a jewel toned purple with fuchsia shimmer. I'm saving this one for a mani on it's own with some kind of glitter accent, I'll show you how it turns out in a seperate post later this week.

The other two that come in the set are Vested Interest, a teal green and Cashmere Bathrobe, a grey with a slight grey shimmer. Both of these are cream formulas and apply smoothly and easily. Although I do like the colors, there's nothing particularly wow for me about these two, but they do tie in well with the flashes of colour you see in For The Twill Of It. Using the three together makes a more interesting manicure, and is the obvious choice for indecisive people like me :)

You can purchase the Essie Fall 2013 Collection cube online from Nordstrom or Zappos.

Which is your favourite color? Did you buy any new fall polishes yet?
