So Long January // Plaid and Sparkles

31 January 2013

I thought I'd sneak in a quick outfit post before January is up. This is one of my current 'go-to' outfits when I just can't be that bothered, which...I'll be honest, has been quite a large portion of January. It's just such a cold and dreary month, it makes me want to lay on my sofa and do little else. I'm quite happy to be seeing the back of it and hoping it's all up from here.

When I have had to do something, this oversized plaid shirt has been a comfy option that I've thrown on a few more times than I care to admit. Mine's from Uniqlo a few months back, but if you're after the same oversized style you could always just buy a men's plaid shirt. Currently, you'll mostly find me wearing mine with black leggings and a jacket or vest (like the pics). I reckon it's going to be slowly transitioned into my 'lazy spring wardrobe' with some skinny jeans and sparkly pumps, though.

Plaid is one of those timeless things that works it's way in and out of fashion trends. It's casual and durable and although it's not the most feminine of prints (nothing very ladylike about lumberjacks is there!) if you contrast it with some sparkly accessories it can look fab! I'm partial to pairing mine with my gorgeous 'Audrey' necklace from EllandEmm on Etsy and a little arm candy too, of course!

Bally bag, leather biker boots, dorothy perkins biker boots, ellandemm, audrey necklace

Who else loves a plaid shirt for the casual easy option? How do you wear your plaid?

Sunday How I Like It // The Mango Quilted Coat

18 November 2012

Waffles!!

I think you all know me well enough by now to know that Sundays are my casual and comfortable day. I love nothing more than a lazy Sunday spent strolling round the park, drinking coffee, reading and relaxing with my two favourite guys.

Unfortunately for us, the temperatures here in Korea will plummet to well below freezing in the coming weeks, so whilst this new down coat is a pretty purchase for now, it's also a necessity for later. Last winter my thick wool coat just didn't cut it and I was just about frozen to death on a couple of occasions. This year I knew exactly what I needed, a long and thick layer of feather padding with a fur lined hood! Mango delivered the goods and trust me when I tell you that I'll be bundled up with at least three layers under it, a thick woolly scarf and the fur hood pulled tight around my face in no time at all. Yep, it really does get that cold here! Last year went to minus17.8°C!!

For now though, we're happy to make the most of the much milder afternoons and my new coat is keeping me so toasty. I find something so enjoyable and satisfying about being able to snuggle up in big puffy jackets like this one when there's a chill in the air. We had a lovely Sunday, as always, and man were those waffles good!!

How's your weekend been? How cold does it get where you are and what do you wear?

More Coffee // More Cosy

12 November 2012

Man alive, time seems to be flying! Don't you feel like it was just summer a few weeks ago?! And now here we are approaching Christmas at a rapid pace. Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas but I'm a bit scared by how fast time seems to be slipping away from me. It never helps the feeling when I check in on my blog and realize it's been five days since my last post :( Apologies.

The weekend was a mish mash of this and that, lots of time spent getting odd jobs done and a smattering of shopping. I picked up this cosy cardigan (I'm majorly obsessed with 'cosy' right now, if you hadn't noticed!) from H&M and it's going to be hard to take it off. It's one of those finds that I just know I'll wear until it's death. It's knitted and offers a lot of warmth without being bulky, the sleeves are long (something I love for that added cosy factor), it hangs loosely but in the most flattering way and it can be dressed up or down in a hundred different ways. It's a versatile piece which, I think, looks much more expensive than it actually was.

Like my weekend, the following photos are a bit of a mish mash. The weather wasn't playing ball so I only got a couple of pictures of my outfit, courtesy of my iPhone. We retreated back inside Starbucks (always got some spare time for a bit of Christmas in a cup) and hid from the rain, with the 'real' camera never even making it out of the bag. You'll still get the idea though :)

Some of you with very keen eyes might have noticed my nail polish, it's a combination of two new colours I picked from the James Bond Skyfall collection. I've taken some snaps (decent ones on a decent camera - promise!) to show you the colours, both of which I really love. I'll show you them in my next post - Wednesday's the aim, here's hoping I can keep track of time a little better until then!

I Know I Shouldn't Be But.... // + Biker Boots & Bag

31 October 2012

First off, happy Halloween everyone! I thought about doing a Halloween themed post but there's not much to show you since I've not really done anything to celebrate. I did carve a pumpkin today though, there's a pic on my Instagram if you want to see my skills effort! Truth be told, at this time of year there's really only one celebration I really care about...Christmas! Yes, I'm afraid I am one of those people who gets excited about Christmas crazily early. The arrival of certain things, like christmas products in the shops and the Starbucks red cups, only serves to crank up my excitement and get me wondering how soon is too soon to put up my tree?? I do appreciate that it's still technically October right now, yes.

A quick after work shopping trip a couple of days ago turned into full blown Christmas excitement when I realised one of my favourite home stores has their Christmas decorations on sale. Mainly though, I thought I'd show you some quick iPhone snaps because I wore two new wardrobe favourites.

I'd been on a hunt for some real leather biker boots for quite some time but had no luck over here (at least not in my size) then I saw these on the Dorothy Perkins site and there was free shipping with 10% off. They fit perfectly and I'm impressed with the quality. I know they're going to be my winter favourite because they feel so sturdy.

The bag is another new find. It's from Zara and I liked it mainly because it's big and it's suede, which seemed a bit different. It's great as an everyday, go anywhere kind of bag. The rest of the outfit is fairly uninteresting; skinny jeans, chunky knit cardigan and a leopard scarf. The outfit is just so easy to throw on and feels so comfy and cosy.

Anyway, the shopping trip itself turned into a Christmas decoration shopping spree and the one thing I went to find fell by the wayside.
Spotted the store from across the mall.
Black Suede Shopper Bag - Zara (here) //  Black Leather Biker Boots - Dorothy Perkins (here)
Yes!

Now, I know some of you will be looking at this and thinking it's ridiculously early (and you'd be right to think that, it is) to be talking about this but I can't help but get excited. It's such a festive, fun time of year that everyone can enjoy, honestly, I can't wait!

So, with all that being said I want to know if anyone else is already excited for Christmas? And when do you reckon I can decorate? Usually I hold out until December but I'm thinking the first weekend after my birthday (21st November) might be as far as I make it this year! Is that too early for me to put up my tree?

White Longline Blazer, Shopping & Supper

14 August 2012

Why is it that when you're looking for something you can never find it but as soon as you stop you do?

I've been looking for the perfect longline white blazer for so long now. I wanted one that was lightweight but still fairly structured. This one comes from a brand new store here in Korea called '8 Seconds'. The store is a new project by Samsung, apparently their bid to enter fashion on an international level, so stay tuned for stores popping up where you are sometime! And if they do, remember where you heard about it first! ;)

The store is very similar to Zara and H&M, so no real shocker that I like it, is it?! It's priced about the same and they have some really cool pieces and a gigantic accessory collection....that you'll probably be seeing the entirety of on my blog pretty soon!!

On the subject of H&M, I'm chuffed with this turquoise necklace I found there this week. It feels and looks (in my humble opinion at least) much more expensive than it was. The palm print shorts are also from there and have become a firm favourite in my summer wardrobe now, the prints fun but because it's monochromatic it makes them easy to combine into lots of different outfits.

And, on a slightly related note (this is the outfit I had on and said I was going to get some snaps of), I wanted to say thank you to everyone who has watched and commented on my first video blog.  You've all made me feel really glad that I finally got the courage to do it and I'm excited about doing my next one soon... maybe at the weekend? If you haven't watched it yet, you can do - HERE!

A Beary Good Friday Night

5 May 2012

How great are weekends?! The only complaint I have about them is how quickly they always pass. On Friday nights, even though half the time we'd love nothing more than to just crash out on the couch with a bottle of wine, my fiancĂ© and I always try to go out and do something. It really helps to make the weekend feel a little longer. Last night, since it was a really nice evening here, we went for a stroll to the park and then for a few glasses of wine and dinner al fresco!

I really struggle to dress appropriately when it comes to doing something like that though. Dinner and drinks calls for smarter attire than the walking around the park part, don't you agree?! Anyway, after a lot of uming and ahing about it, I opted for my new floral skirt from F21 with my beige linen blazer from Zara. A white vest, some gold flat sandals and one of my favourite vintage clutch bags to pull the look together.

The quality of some photos isn't fantastic, sorry...but that's because they were all snapped on my brand new iPhone!! Yeeeeeaaaah! :)

Floral skirt - F21.  White watch - DKNY.  Nails - OPI 'Shorts Story'.

Gold Sandals - F21 : Only place currently stocking my size in Korea :'( Steve's trainers - Salvatore Ferragamo.

I Wore: Hot Pink Blazer Because Love Isn't In The Air

15 March 2012

Yesterday was 'White Day' here in Korea. Whilst the western world just has the one day dedicated to love over here in Korea they have three.
  • February 14th, often called Red Day here, is when women give chocolates and gifts to the men.
  • March 14th, White Day, when men give gifts to the women.
  • My personal favorite, the final day, April 14th is for all the single people and it's called......
.....wait for it.....
...Black Day! Dun, dun, duuuuun!!!
There's no beating around the bush, if you're single, well...it's a dark, dark time for you clearly!

Joking aside, I actually think the idea is quite good; single people go to restaurants to eat 'Jajangmyeon', a dish of noodles with black bean sauce - hence the real reason for the name! The idea being they get to celebrate singledom with other single people and who knows....maybe meet that special someone! Ahhhh!

With all that being said, what did I do yesterday to celebrate White Day, the day for the ladies??

Nothing! According to my fiance I can't use Valentines Day and White Day as excuses to get gifts. I get one, that's it. Dang it! It was worth a try I suppose!

Instead, the evening was spent doing our weekly shopping (so glamorous!) with all the singles. We did pop to Starbucks as well though and got to sit amongst a tonne of young love-stuck couples! Despite not receiving one measly little gift, I still thought it'd be nice to dress with the theme of love in mind by popping on my pink boyfriend blazer

Let me begin by showing you my unimpressed face...
"What do you mean I don't get gifts on Valentine's Day AND White Day?!!!"

White enamel watch - 'DKNY'. Gold Orb Pendant Necklace - 'Vivienne Westwood'. Bangles - 'Accessorize' & 'F21'
Hot Pink Blazer - 'Grey & Ousborn'. Oversized Black Bag - 'Bally'
Mint Nail Polish - 'The Face Shop'.
White Day, Korea - 14th March

So what do you make of the ways Korean people celebrate love here? What do you think of the idea of Black Day for single people?

PS: I passed 1000 followers on GFC a few days ago! I'm planning a giveaway to celebrate and a special thank you post but I wanted to mention it briefly now. I'm so thankful to everyone who shows support to me and my blog :) I remember back at the start of November, when I did my 50 follower giveaway, I thought it'd take me forever to get to 1000! Every day that new people visited my blog and followed me I got more and more excited. I half expect to wake up one day and find you've all come to your senses and un-followed me. But...until that day I want to say a huge thank you, your kind comments and interest in even my most boring of posts is what puts a smile on my face and makes blogging so much fun for me! Thank you everyone :) x

I Didn't Wear: Contrast Tuxedo Blazer and Sequinned Skirt

21 February 2012

I've begun saying my goodbyes before I head back to Korea in just a couple of days time. Today I said goodbye to my youngest brother who is away at university - I cried on the street in front of Selfridges, what a ninny!

Anyway, I currently have a mountain of stuff that somehow all needs packing. Thankfully I'm using the bedroom of the aforementioned brother as my packing room. Now...I should be packing as I'm sat here writing this, that or sleeping, but as they say, 'out of sight, out of mind'. I should also add that I'm pretty much the queen of procrastination sooooo...

...instead of doing anything I should be doing I thought I'd show you an outfit I put on to go out this weekend. It didn't make it out the door though because....
  1. It was bloody freezing outside.
  2. My mum said she wasn't sure about it.
You're probably  laughing at me for that last reason!

Although my mum is first to admit she's 'not up on fashion' I do always like to take her opinion and at least give myself time to consider it. After all, it's not often I have her around to ask either! So, I promptly changed into something that you've all seen before but which did however include tights. Much warmer :)

On reflection though I think I still quite like this outfit so I thought I'd show you lovely people and see what you think.

Unfortunately I couldn't fathom (in the short time I had - always running late for a night out) how on earth to get my feet in the photos without them looking weird! I paired the outfit with my suede cowboy-esque boots from this post a while back so you'll have to use your imagination.

Mainly I just love the way the skirt twinkles and the dusty pink colour of it. I'm feeling like this outfit might be coming out to play when Spring weather hits! What do you think? Do you ask anyone's opinion on what you wear? Would you listen to your mum?

Follow Ugly Duckling

PS: As I mentioned, I'm getting ready to leave England and I'm kind of rushing around like a headless chicken. As I result I've barely had time to get on my computer (which seems to be breaking down on me as well) to reply to peoples comments. I'm really sorry! I am still reading them all though and I promise it's only temporary. If you've asked me a question I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible! :) x

I Wore: Candy Colours for The Great British Day Out

18 February 2012

Can you see that smug look on my face?? That's because I'm right in the middle of one of my favourite possible days - a good old British day out.Oh...and I just spent £5 on traditional English sweeties!

Although I've been lucky enough to see a lot of truly spectacular places and take in some of the worlds best landscapes there's still no place quite like home for me. I grew up taking regular day trips to different areas of the English countryside, it brings back such great memories when I visit them again. My Dad and I ventured out this week to the Yorkshire Dales taking time to stop off at an old favourite, 'Sweet Memories', a sweet shop in a small town called Thirsk. Once we had the provisions for the day (not the most nutritious!) we went on to visit an old abbey then finally to the seaside where we met up with my brother who is at university nearby.

Perhaps subconsciously channelling my childhood, I opted to wear a girlie combination of a bird print dress and Spring pastels; my new baby...the pale pink Miu Miu, a matching soft cashmere scarf and a pastel green cardigan. To stop it getting too sickly sweet (bad pun intended...sorry folks!) I wore knee high suede boots and my studded wrap watch.
Bag - Miu Miu. Bird print dress - H&M. Scarf - Jobis.
Studded wrap watch - La Mer. Feather necklace - F21. Bracelets - Accessorize.
