Coffee Table Collection // Kate Spade New York Things We Love

28 April 2013

The latest addition to my coffee table arrived in the post this weekend. Kate Spade Things We Love; Twenty Years of Inspiration, Intriguing Bits and Other Curiosities is a new hardcover book created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the brand. It's packed with gorgeous pictures and brimming with the playful sophistication that the brand is known for.

The book comprises of twenty chapters all focusing on a particular topic such as, 'a well-placed bow', 'handwritten notes', 'summer', 'bold blooms', and 'a sense of humour'. Each chapter is made up of iconic fashion photographs and collages of inspirational items, all complemented by quotes and little tips presented in beautifully thought-out typography.

Whilst I was expecting this book to be good, it actually really surpassed my expectations! Everything from how beautifully glossy the pages are, adorned with their colourful images and edged in gold, down to the graphic black and white striped lining of the cover, makes it a truly gorgeous book to enjoy leafing through. Whether or not you're a Kate Spade fan this book is a visual delight, and I think it would make a great addition to any coffee table book collection. It's my new favourite and if I haven't already made it clear, I'm just a little bit in love with this book!

The book is $40 via the Kate Spade website but it's also currently on sale via Amazon for a very reasonable $25, here:

Coffee Table Collection // Lauren Conrad Style & Beauty

22 January 2013

I have to admit I was somewhat obsessed with The Hills. I mean, c'mon...the pretty ladies, dressed up partying and lunching their days away in L.A, what a life! Not to mention the boys, the drama... it was one of the original and (still is, in my opinion) best "reality" TV shows.

In the back of my head I always questioned just how real it all was and when I saw Lauren's nails suddenly change colour, after simply walking through a door, I was faced with a sad reality - confirmation of what I suspected, that it probably wasn't very real at all.

But still, I watched, and was fascinated by the stories and in particular Lauren. Even though much of it was fake, watching her grow up from her Laguna days wasn't. Over the years we got to see her style develop and witnessed her transform from a relaxed, beach going girl next door to a woman with an enviable wardrobe and a chic, elegant personal style.

I like to collect coffee table books and use them for decoration around my apartment, so in a bit of a fan-girl moment not too long ago, I decided to buy her two books, 'Style' and 'Beauty'. I hadn't purchased them earlier since I figured there wouldn't be great deal for me to take from them. I was actually pleasantly surprised that there are some great tips and useful ideas. There's plenty of step by step photo guides for hair and beauty and while much of it probably isn't stuff you didn't know, it is nice just to flip through. You can see that she has a genuine interest in the both fashion and beauty and has made a huge effort for her books to be useful, not merely a means to cash in on her star status. They do make pretty additions to my book stacks, too.
