By The Beach // And The Expat Phenomenon

7 March 2013

After literally doing nothing but lazing in the sun on our first day we decided that day two was a day for a little exploration. The Hilton Resort Raz Al Khaimah is set on it's own huge private bay with pristine white beaches to walk along on both sides. We spent our morning wandering around and paddling in the sea, had lunch at one of the many beachside restaurants and then retreated back to the sun loungers for the afternoon. Wouldn't want to exert too much energy after all, not when we're on holiday!

Woke up to this awesome view of the pools and private bay at the hotel.
Strolled along the beach
Played in the sea
Dress - ASOS (old)  //  'Fairfax' Sunglasses - Elizabeth and James
Stopped off for a delicious lunch in the sun.
And then retreated to the pool again...
...for afternoon cocktail time ;)
In the evening we headed to one of the local malls for a browse and a light dinner. It's respectful to the local culture to cover your arms and at least to your knees when you go to public areas in the UAE. So, I opted to wear a bright printed maxi with a lightweight sweater. I also took my Pashli on it's first outing! Exciting!

Heading out to the mall in the evening. (Pashli's first day out!)
Maxi skirt - Forever21  //  Sheer sleeved sweater - H&M Conscious Collection  //  Bag - 3.1 Phillip Lim
Watch - Marc By Marc Jacobs  //  Lipstick - MAC 'RazzleDazzler'  //  Blush - MAC 'Supercontinental'

There wasn't much to take photos of, we just grabbed some casual dinner and wandered around the mall. Because I knew we were going to be visiting Dubai Mall later in the week, where there would be a million options, I told myself I'd wait until then to shop.

Now, for most people that would be an easy task. However, there were a lot of very average British stores (bear with me here) which we don't have in Korea, resulting in me getting waaaaay over-excited (an effect of expat life). Despite this, somehow, I held off buying!

With the exception of one store that is, where I just..

Could.
Not.
Resist!

If you've ever lived abroad for a long period of time you'll understand me. Those of you who haven't, unfortunately luckily, cannot begin to imagine the amount of joy a food haul like this brought me!  It's sad, I know, but true.

  1. Hi Amelia!
I'm so jealous of your vacation. The weather seems so nice compared to New York today, with the storm coming any minute now.
The food haul is like me whenever I go to Korea. Although I can get some of the snacks and cookies here, the prices are ridiculous in the States.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday! [:

    1. The weather was beautiful, such a great time of year to visit :)

Yes, I can get some british stuff too but as you said, all massively overpriced and it's only really available in one or two stores in Itaewon, which I don't visit often.

Hope spring comes to New York soon for you, it's a beautiful time of year to be there! I love spring in New York! :)
