Afternoon Tea Anyone? TWG Jakarta

27 January 2014

Near my old home in England there's a traditional tea room called Betty's, it's been around for almost a century. I remember visiting it for the first time when I was very young. I can recall spying the pretty patisseries and cakes for the first time, the sparkling silverware on the crisp white linens, and the people chatting away calmly whilst sipping from their delicate teacups, it all looked so sophisticated and grown-up to young me!

From then on I always loved the whole experience of 'afternoon tea'. I mainly enjoy it for the atmosphere; unhurried with a gentle hum of conversation and soft clinking of spoons against bone china. In reality, the afternoon tea itself is most usually just an overpriced selection of very small sandwiches and cakes but still....I'm English and it's in my blood to love it.

Sadly, I've been somewhat deprived of afternoon tea over the last few years because of living in Korea. So, as you'd expect, I was pretty thrilled when I discovered that the luxury tea brand TWG, had recently opened a tea salon here in Jakarta.

I didn't take any outfit pictures because I wasn't wearing a particularly well put-together/post-worthy outfit (photo from my Instagram for reference below), I think I was more preoccupied with thoughts of tea when I got dressed. This cosy knitted cardigan from Zara has become a recent favourite of mine though, believe it or not it can sometimes be freezing in Jakarta - they like to air condition some of the malls quite heavily!

I was sick over the weekend (and took it as a good excuse to do a whole lot of nothing) so this post is coming to you a little later than I had planned. I'm feeling well again now though so I'll be back tomorrow with another post :)

Happy Monday folks!

  2. I'm obsessed with TWG. I went to their store in the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore and lost my mind. The tea is just SO divine! I'm glad you got the chance to have afternoon tea, there aren't enough places in Seoul that offer it!

    1. I know! I always felt like the few places that did were a bit of a rip off too :(

TWG tea is soooo good, and there's SO many to choose from, takes me about 20minutes to choose everytime I go there! x

  3. Oh this place looks lovely. Here in Seattle, few people do tea, because we're such a coffee town. But it's nice to enjoy a cup of tea, especially in the cold.

    1. Well, Jakarta is actually just over an hour away from Singapore and I also just so happen to be going there again in a few days... So I may well get chance to try it! A friend of mine also recommended that one. And...I've also heard that Raffles and the Fullerton Bay Hotel have really good ones too! :) So many choices I may just have to visit a few times. Awful, huh?! x

There's a few branches of Betty's now. Make sure you go to the one that's on Parliament Street by the edge of The Stray (the park area) it's the original and best by far! :) I'll be looking out for photos on your blog!
