A Peek Into My Living Room

31 May 2014

My living room is finally coming together.

No sooner had I almost perfected the one in South Korea, than we had to pack it up and sell half of it off, to move to Jakarta. Secretly though, I quite enjoy the chance to start all over again.

There was only one slight problem for me - when you rent apartments and homes in Jakarta, they come furnished. This may work fine for the vast majority of people, after all buying furniture and moving it between homes can be costly, but for me it's far from ideal. I have particular tastes and like my apartment to reflect my personal style. So, the first challenge was finding a place that had good bones. We saw all kinds of crimes against interior design in the form of gaudy, ornately carved wooden sofas, wallpaper to make your eyes hurt, and lavish yet somehow oh-so-tacky window dressings. Trust me, they were bad.

In the end we found a place with plain painted walls, classical style dark wood furniture and a cream sofa with matching chairs. Not my ideal, but workable. I added in the necessary soft furnishings; candles, cushions, vases, coffee table books and trinkets. There's much more to be added, but I feel that with a pop of brightness from fresh flowers I pick up every week or two, it's starting to look like my home.

Indonesia Blogger Blog

The bar cart is something I had made here in Indonesia. After years of wanting one in Korea, and not being able to find one anywhere (believe me I searched high and low!) I was determined to get one here. I still need to work on styling it, as so far, I've done very little with it. For starters I'd like to add something to the wall above it. I'm not sure whether to try and find a beautiful mirror or a fun print of some kind, what do you think? Any ideas anyone?

Animal-topped mason jars, perfect for jewelry or nail polish storage -  via Land of Nams

I've been meaning to DIY some gold animals for quite some time after spotting them in several stylish settings (see pictures above). They're cute and playful and I thought it'd be fun to dot a couple around my bookshelf and coffee table or maybe even re-create the animal-topped mason jars. After my Kate Spade Canvas DIY I had some gold spray paint left over, so it was just a simple case of finding the plastic animals and getting a bit of free time.

I opted for a bucket of mixed 'safari' animals for mine, but of course, you could choose something different like dinosaurs or farm animals. Or, go for one larger sized animal if you want a bigger visual impact. Once I had the animals I simply laid them out flat on newspaper, sprayed one side of them, waited for them to dry and then did the other. As easy as that! I'm really pleased with how they've turned out and the effect is just what I wanted. I have four of them in my living room and even though I have another 12 sat in their bucket, I think they're best staying there for now. I'm going for playful chic decor after all, not a zoo.

Christmas At Mine

16 December 2012

I love Christmas for so many reasons but especially because it's a chance to add some extra sparkle to my apartment. White and silver decorations accented by the warm light of candles (and of course fairy lights) look so pretty! Every year the decoration in my apartment spreads a little further. This year the Mr and I had a Christmas craft night when we made our own initial shaped tree ornaments and a DIY table centrepiece using pine cones and a lot of white glitter. It was so simple to do but I love the end product. I'm so pleased with how our living room has come together this year so I thought I'd give you guys a little peek at it.

HRH Collection Jewelry // Louis Ghost Chairs

Latest apartment acquisition  //  Louis Ghost Chair

I recently found a new blog called HRH Collection. It's written by a girl called Alex, an American girl with impeccable style. Her home is beautiful, her outfits are simple and sophisticated and her accessories are just incredible. Her style is very similar to my taste and I was so thrilled when I realised she has an online shop selling most of the jewellery she wears, all of which she makes herself. I'd love the whole lot in all honesty, but, I decided to be sensible for a change and just bought three. For now.

I'm thrilled with the bracelets so I did a quick video review of them on my YouTube channel. Go watch it (here) if you'd like to see the bracelets in more detail and know the names etc.

The chair is another recent buy. I've been wanting a Louis Ghost chair for such a long time and I'm so glad I've been able to add one to my apartment, finally.

Has anyone else bought anything from HRH collection? Is there anything you've wanted for a long time and then finally got?
