An Interlude // J.Crew Bouquet Ring

13 March 2013

I thought I'd give you a break from all the Dubai posts and the zillion photos today. Two reasons why...

First, I have the post-holiday blues and I fear that all this blogging about my former self being more tanned, enjoying beautiful bars, shopping and generally have a gay old time, is only serving to prolong the agony of realising that, yep, my real life just isn't as good. I need a break to get over it.

Two, I got something pretty and now it's in the sale. Annoying? Frustrating? Yes! First time this has happened? Unfortunately not. But...I thought I'd find the silver lining and share it with you so that maybe someone else can benefit from it being half price, before it's sold out altogether.

Isn't it pretty! It's the perfect springtime accessory and I can't wait to wear it with some pastel-y goodness when the warmer weather arrives here :)

I got it a while back from J.Crew - HERE . They're doing an extra 30% off all sale items if you enter the code GOODNEWS at the moment, so it's only thirty-five bucks now!

Of course, this also means there are some other very tempting bargains. I have my eye on this and wouldn't mind a pair of these...only problem is, I want the entire rainbow of colours, which cannot happen, even if they are super cheap now...! Help! Which are your faves?

Ring a Ring a Rose Gold (and diamonds!)

15 May 2012

Here it is, my beautiful engagement ring! It's rose gold, diamond paved with a round brilliant cut centre diamond. I'm in love, I can't stop staring at it!

My fiancĂ© proposed in December but wisely used a stand in ring, still beautiful just not a diamond (they're the real deal sealers!). We'd actually had the odd hypothetical, very roundabout conversation, about rings and getting engaged. In amongst those he'd asked something along the lines of 'if you were ever one day maybe going to get married what kind of ring would you sort of want?'

To say I was undecided is an understatement! I'm the girl who has trouble picking what I'm going to eat in a restaurant and tells the waiter 'two more minutes' three times!! So, you can imagine the difficulty I have selecting the most meaningful thing I'll ever wear. Given how many times I've changed my mind since we got engaged it's a good job he let me choose!

At first I couldn't even settle on a shape let alone the 'four Cs' (cut, colour, clarity, carat). A family friend is a jeweller and told me round brilliants reflect the highest percentage of light back and thus sparkle more.

Now...if there's one thing I did know, it was that I wanted my ring to sparkle!

Since sparkle was highest on my priorities I opted for the best cut, colour and clarity possible rather than a very large size (carats) diamond. After selecting the diamond, we then ordered a platinum setting but I realised I hardly ever wear silver and I wasn't really sure why I was getting a silver toned ring...?! I think I'd chosen platinum because that's the 'in' colour these days.

I finally decided I wanted a slightly more individual style ring so we had the halo setting custom made in rose gold. I love the softer more neutral tone of it as opposed to yellow gold of silver/platinum. As you've probably noticed, my taste is quite feminine, so this delicate style is perfect for me. The band is paved with diamonds and the centre stone is circled with them too so whilst it isn't chunky it's still very eye-catching.

As soon as the diamond was set this weekend, I fell in love, I can't explain how pure and white the centre diamonds look! I wish I could do my ring justice through photos but no matter how hard I try I can't capture just how sparkly it is.

My rose gold diamond engagement ring - New best friend, there's truth in the saying!

I tried to get a few shots of the ring on my hand today but in the end the photos I took using my iPhone on Saturday, right after I got it are much better. You'd be surprised how hard diamonds are to photograph! You'll be seeing it plenty of times in outfit posts from now on though!

Choosing my ring was definitely one of my most difficult decisions to date. Every detail comes down to personal preference and although it would have been a darn sight easier if my fiancé had chosen one for me, now that I have my ring I'm so glad he didn't!

So, what do you think, would you ever choose rose gold? Would you like to pick your own ring or do you prefer the idea that your husband to be selects it?

A Ring Thing.

17 September 2011

Lately I've been gravitating towards rings. Previously I never even bothered to look at rings, this was for a couple of reasons.

Firstly because my boyfriend said his ex-girlfriend used to wear really tacky ones and that rings remind him of her. Clearly reminding him of her just wasn't something I wanted to be doing.

Second reason is because I've always felt I have odd hands.

No doubt the later is just in my crazy paranoid brain and since I've now reached the awesome I-don't-actually-care-about-you're-ex-girlfriend-anymore phase I seem to have started taking an interest in rings.

Recently I went shopping and picked up four new ones. My favourite of them is a gold and black leopard.

My new favourite accessories to buy - rings. Bracelet - Swarovski.

Rarrghhh!

He looks pretty damn cool even if I do say so myself. What's even cooler is he only cost me about $5 from Forever 21! They have a lot of very awesome rings in right now. I had to stop myself from buying about ten that I wanted. In the end I wittled it down to just three :'(

Domed Jewel Ring - Forever 21

Love Ring - Forever 21.
No doubt I'll just end up buying the others when I'm next there though. I really can't help myself when they're so cheap.

I picked up the fourth at H&M.

Black and Silver Chunky Ring - H&M

It was also a bargain. Let's face it though, you don't have to spend a fortune on accessories when you can buy ones that look great at shops like these.

I recommend you save your money for gorgeous real leather handbags instead. Pleather and P.V.C handbags at these kind of shops are sadly not such a great buy or look!

Please follow me. I'll be posting about color blocking tomorrow!
